Evaluation of Nature’s Wonder on Spider Plant Growth
Dr. Joseph R. Heckman, Ph. D.
Extension Specialist in Soil Fertility
Rutgers The State University of New Jersey

Introduction

As listed in the product literature Nature’s Wonder is a peat humic substance that is marketed as
a biostimulant. Biostimulants are generally regarded as non-nutritional products that may, under some conditions, reduce fertilizer requirements and increase yield and resistance to plant stress (Crouch and Van Staden, 1994; Russo and Berlyn, 1990, 1992; Heckman, 1994). The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of Nature’s Wonder as a biostimulant for the growth and quality of spider house plants.

Results

Fertilizer increased all measures of growth and chlorophyll compared to the control which were clearly nutrient deficient. Plants grown with Nature’s Wonder and fertilizer responded well and were positive. Nature’s Wonder did result in a statistically significant increase in leaf chlorophyll. These results indicate that Nature’s Wonder may enhance green plant color, which is important to houseplant quality.
